»THE FLUTEON CAMP» FAQ

1. What is »The FLUTEON Camp«?

»The FLUTEON Camp«, is a 7-day summer school or intensive summer seminar for flute.

2. What is a summer school and what is its purpose?

It is a school that takes place during the summer holidays. It has a select number of "subjects", the content of which, among other things, enables participants to accelerate their individual growth, strengthens their abilities to do better work in the future and offers the opportunity to develop their individual characteristics.

3. Who is summer school for?

It is intended for junior and senior high school music students and amateur flutists in bands and wind orchestras.

4. What is the recommended age of participants?

The recommended age is 12 years and older. Participants can be younger, but in this case the child is expected to be independent or accompanied by an adult.

5. Can beginners (1st/2nd grade of music school), musicians who would like to refresh their knowledge or those who would like to learn the basics of playing the flute in 1 week join?

Of course! The repertoire and the workshops are always tailored to all participants. If necessary, the participants are also separated according to age, so that the workshop is fully adapted to the age group.

For those who would like to learn the basics of the flute in 1 week, the entire offer will be fully tailored.

6. What does a summer music school week look like?

Summer school starts with an introductory day, room check-in and other activities - the activities are different every year.

The days that follow are filled with individual and group lessons (with a mentor), varied and useful workshops, individual & group rehearsals (independent rehearsal, without a mentor), preparation for the final performance and piano rehearsals, and other organised or spontaneous social activities.

The week of the summer music school ends with a final concert of the participants.

7. Are there other activities besides lessons?

In addition to the individual and group lessons with a mentor, there is also independent individual and group practice - without a mentor. This way, the newly acquired information and knowledge can be integrated into the individual and the group with each passing day. Without practice, there is no progress.

In addition, there are various workshops for specific (musical) areas, preparation for performance and practice with a piano, and in the remaining time, we spend time together playing games or being creative, or outdoors in nature.

8. How can I register?

The registration form can be found on the website: http://www.pijahocevar.com/fluteon-eng; tab »The FLUTEON Camp«. Clicking on the registration form will open a document for you to fill in and submit.

9. Where can I get further information?

For any further questions, please write to: phocevar.musicstudio@gmail.com

10. How are accommodation and meals organised during the summer school?

Accommodation and meals will be organised by the Zavod F.I. Baraga and DSO Novo mesto, respectively. More info: http://zavod-baraga.si/   and   https://www.dso-novomesto.com/

11. How »for real« is actually the summer school The FLUTEON Camp?

The summer, »The FLUTEON Camp«, is very FOR REAL. During the week we spend together, we learn, practice and have fun for real.

12. Do only the best (e.g. competitors) come to the summer school?

NO. The summer school is open to participants of all levels, backgrounds and abilities. The summer school »The FLUTEON Camp« has been a rainbow of all kinds of flute players so far, and I hope it will continue to be so in the future. Everyone is welcome!

13. How much progress can I actually make in just 1 week?

If a participant consistently follows the instructions of the mentors and practices with dedication throughout the week, they can make huge changes and progress! Even the most "stubborn" bad habits can change for the better in a week.

It may also happen that changes are not immediately visible, but always show up after some time. This time depends on the quality of the individual's work and his/her abilities.

14. Can I attend the summer school online*?

You can! However, the impact of the summer school will not be as effective as if attending in person.

The *online presence is primarily intended for those flutists who, due to force majeure, are unable to attend in person. For more information about the online presence, please contact: phocevar.musicstudio@gmail.com

15. Are there any scholarships available for the summer school?

Not at the moment. If you are interested in attending the summer school and you come from a family or country where it is difficult to afford the summer school fees, please contact me and we will work together to find a solution.

16. What can I expect from the summer school?

Expect a different dynamic to that of a music school or school camp. Anyone who embraces the dynamics of the summer school is sure to be thrilled, go home with new friendships, fresh information and useful skills, and guaranteed to make progress in everything involving music and the flute.

17. Why have workshops at the summer school when there are individual and group lessons, preparation for performance and piano rehearsals?

The main objective of the summer school »The FLUTEON Camp«, is the holistic education of flutists. Many factors are important for quality, healthy and inspiring creation in the present and in the future, and many different areas are responsible for this. These useful skills are acquired by the participants in individual and group lessons. Even more specific knowledge, depending on the field, is acquired in the workshops.

18. Why is the stay organised in a remote institution and not somewhere in the city centre where there is more action?

The remoteness of the Zavod F. I. Baraga allows participants to focus on their work, progress and build their motivation for the future. Good attention and work on the part of the participant at the summer school are crucial for personal success at and after the summer school.

The remoteness also makes the stay safer and of a higher quality.

19. Accomodation and meals of participants?

Participants of the summer school can stay at the Zavod F. I. Baraga, above the Jurij Slatkonja Conservatory, and the meals will be organised at DSO Novo mesto.

Participants can also arrange their own accommodation and meals.

Accommodation and meals will be paid for separately. The stay includes accommodation, internet + tourist tax, and the meals include full board.

The DSO kitchen can easily accommodate special diets or preferences. Please specify any nutritional requirements at the time of registration.

External participants not staying at the Zavod F. I. Baraga can have their meals at the DSO! Please specify at the time of registration.

20. Safety of the participants?

At least 1 adult will be present at all times during the summer school activities at the Zavod F. I. Baraga. During night time, an adult will also be present.

During the summer school, strict adherence to the instructions of the mentors is expected.

Summer flute school The FLUTEON Camp, August 2022, Novo mesto, Slovenia

"I liked the summer school because we learnt a lot of things in a very fun way and we spent evenings socialising and bonding with each other. Pija is a really good teacher who knows how to bring out the best in you."

(Gaja K., 14; The FluteOn Camp, 2022)

"First of all, I would like to thank you for everything you sent. The video with your impressions and photos is great, it gives us parents a sense of how good a time you had. 🙂 It will be a really nice memory. Thank you also for the videos of the performance. And most of all, thank you for a great summer school. Gaja loved it, it was a different experience but also a nice change of pace at the end of the holidays. Once again, thank you for everything."

(Melita K., participant's mother; The FluteOn Camp, 2022)

"It was my second time at Pija's summer school, but the first time that she organised it herself. I loved the individual lessons, which she tailored perfectly to each student. We also had some group workshops with Pija and one with a great guest tutor. In our free time we socialised a lot and Pija also took the time to be with us, talking, playing cards and laughing a lot. :)))"

(Klara K., 19; The FluteOn Camp, 2022)

"It was my first live summer school and I loved it. I learnt a lot of different breathing exercises which will be very helpful for me in the future, and with Pija's help I realised that I need to enjoy the music I play, tell a story and trust myself. What I also liked about Pija is that she plays beautifully and is very cheerful."

(Gaja K., 14; The FluteOn Camp, 2022)

"I had a great time at the summer school, and I liked my teacher Pija because she gave me lots of new ideas and taught me new ways to practice. I also liked her sense of humour. In my free time, I enjoyed socialising and playing Ligretto."

(Inti Č., 13; The FluteOn Camp, 2022)

"I had a great time at the summer school and enjoyed it very much. It was a very nice experience for me. For a while I was thinking about maybe quitting playing the flute because I wasn't enjoying it as much anymore. However, with your help and advice, you helped me to fall back in love with playing. I can see my progress too. Thank you so much for helping me to make this progress."

(Ana Š., 13; The FluteOn Camp, 2022)

"I am immensely satisfied with everything you have prepared and with the execution itself.
It was a pleasure to watch Ana enjoying herself and even though she was thinking of giving up playing, hanging out with you and the girls gave her an incredible enthusiasm.
She hasn't been so happy and joyful for a long time."

(Simona K., participant's mother; The FluteOn Camp, 2022)

"I had a great time on this year's summer school! I made new friends and learned a lot. But what impressed me the most was how much I actually learned in such a short time!"

(Zoja TM., 14; The FluteOn Camp, 2022)

"At The Fluteon Camp summer school in Novo mesto I was most looking forward to the individual lessons, because there I got most of the knowledge I needed to play the flute even better. I also gained a lot of new knowledge and exercises to prevent injuries while playing and many new exercises for breathing correctly. In my free time, the most fun I had was playing the Ligretto."

(Taja J., 14; The FluteOn Camp, 2022)

"I am happy if my daughter is happy and she definitely is. Through her description of what happened at the flute summer school I realised that she gained important new skills (how to prevent injuries while playing, correct breathing), during the individual lessons you pointed out her mistakes and together you corrected them. The knowledge she has gained will definitely benefit her in her future career. And the participants ended the summer school with a wonderful concert."

(Katja K., participant's mother; The FluteOn Camp, 2022)

"The flute lessons were relaxed and the lessons were fun. I learnt a lot of warm-up exercises to prevent injuries, and the musical elements workshop helped me with my aural comprehension. I am glad that I met other flutists from different parts of Slovenia."

(Sara B., 12; The FluteOn Camp, 2022)

"FluteOn GOES POP is a great workshop. You learn a lot of new things and if you didn't understand something before, this workshop opens your eyes. I know the teacher Pija because she was my teacher and I can write that she is really great. She is passing on the knowledge excellently and she is very kind and good-natured."

(Mija G., 12; FluteOn GOES POP, 2021)

"Thank you very much for putting together such a nice webinar. It was very useful as it reminded me of many aspects that are important when playing and teaching the flute. I appreciate your efforts and willingness to help to make flute lessons better."

(Taja M., 23; FluteOn Fix 'n Play, 2021)

"Oh, wow Pija! It was so nice to listen to you, and to see you smiling, but to learn so many things on top of that... I mean, there were a lot of things that I've already heard about in your lessons/that you've pointed out to me, but even that one at the end about motivation, self-criticism and continuing to play was, I don't know, almost reassuring to hear. It was great, thank you!"

(Anika S., 17; FluteOn Fix 'n Play, 2021)

"Great seminar!! Now I will finally be able to learn the flutter tongue and correct breathing and it was great to renew my other knowledge. Thank you!"

(Pia K., 20; FluteOn Fix 'n Play, 2021)

"I really enjoyed the summer school. My teacher and I caught on very quickly and I gained a lot of useful information. I really like that she looks for the way that suits her students best. In this way, each participant can also get to know themselves and their instrument better. In one week I have progressed more than I imagined and I know that I will continue to use the knowledge I have gained in my career. Thank you again."

(Larisa M., 15; FluteOn 1 on 1, 2021)

"My daughter also attended the summer school this year. It was amazing how quickly they caught on, one week went by too fast and every day was filled with new energy. Mrs Pija gives the children a new perspective on playing, even a difficult note became manageable after a week :)"

(Renata M., participant's mother; FluteOn 1 on 1, 2021)

"What I liked most about the summer school was your encouragement. I think that the exercises I learned will come in handy many times. Before the summer school I had no idea that I would learn so much in one week. I am so glad I enrolled and thank you for giving me so much new knowledge."

(Gaja K., 13; FluteOn 1 on 1, 2021)

"My daughter attended the 'FluteOn 1 on 1' summer school this summer with teacher Pija Hočevar and we are very happy. She has gained a lot of knowledge in a short time and will be happy to use it in the future. We also liked the flexibility, personal approach and friendliness of the teacher."

(Melita K., participant's mother; FluteOn 1 on 1, 2021)

"It was great! Every day in class, I learned something new. I also learned how to relax during the exercises when I am tired. I really liked the chamber music, especially when we practiced alone, to listen to each other and complement each other. I didn't think so many things could be done in one week and I was very positively surprised by the final performance. I really enjoyed the whole week, it was a great challenge, but in the end all the effort was worth it!"

(Pia K., 16; Summer school Cellissimo, 2018)

"Thank you for a wonderful week! I learned a lot of new things and I know I will need it for the future. Thank you for all the positive energy and helpful tips!"

(Meta Ž., 15; Summer school Cellissimo, 2018)

"I learned a lot at the summer school, but most of all I had a lot of fun!"

(Maruša G., 15; Summer school Cellissimo, 2017)

"I really liked the summer school because during the day we rehearsed a lot and prepared for the final performance, and in the evening we went out to hang out or go somewhere. I'll be happy to go back to the Summer School, it's a really nice week of music in great company and a wonderful experience!"

(Klara K., 15; Summer school Cellissimo, 2017)

"What I liked about the summer school was that the teacher paid attention to each student individually. Here we built on the things we had learned during the school year at the music school. I thought it was good because it was a combination of work and fun at the same time."

(Anika S., 14; Summer school Cellissimo, 2017 & 2018)

"I liked the songs and working together! And relaxing before the performance and talking with the other participants!"

(Neca J., 10; Summer school Cellissimo, 2018)

"I liked the summer school because you learn something new, you make compositions that are fun, happy. But most of all I liked it because you meet new friends, have fun with them. I would go again because you learn a lot of new things, which helps you with the lessons you have in music school."

(Žanin C., 10; Summer school Cellissimo, 2017)

"I liked the summer school because I made a lot of new friends and I developed my flute playing. I would go to summer school again to develop my skills even more and meet more new people."

(Valerija Š., 13; Summer school Cellissimo, 2017)
