Part 5
It was the last year of high school and less than a year until the entrance exams at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana. A few flute lessons were behind me and I was still a proud owner of a Yamaha 211 SII (flute for beginners). So, although I practised a lot, I encountered problems that the flute could not help me with. The only solution was to buy a better flute. Ah, everything costs so much already, but now I should ask for a new flute? It was quite frightening, knowing what was in store for me again…
After some time had passed, I got the “green light” from my family to buy a new flute. Full of anticipation and excitement, I went to the music shop with the help of one of my teachers. After a long time of testing, I found mine.
It was perfect, but it was more expensive than the others and of course you don’t dare to tell that at home… But I tried anyway. When I got home, unfortunately I received another NO, because the price of the instrument was really high for the situation at the time. It seemed to me at that moment that my dreams of studying and progressing had collapsed again.
The next day, however, there was a move forward. In the middle of the day, I received a call from my father, who said “Just so you know, instead of a tractor, we are now going to buy your flute.”
Just like that, an ordinary day became a day of hope and gratitude, and in the evening, when I saw the suitcase on the table and opened it, I was overwhelmed with indescribable emotions.
That was in January, which meant that the entrance exams were only 4 months away. It’s a good thing I didn’t know the words “stress” or “too hard” at that time, because as I had many additional commitments I was like a horse with manacles when it came to rehearsals and studying.
To be continued . . . 💛
