Part 3
During the week I was going to the high school and to the Organ School at the weekend. I felt like I was living a dream. I have to admit, it saved me a lot of physical work on our farm, but at the same time I was filling my soul with the best food this world has to offer. So my desire to study at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana seemed real again, but for more than two years I hadn’t had flute lessons with anyone, so I started asking around for teachers.
In our area, the situation regarding professional flutists was unknown at the time, but through a combination of circumstances, through the conductor of the local orchestra at that time, Aleš Makovac, with whom I was also developing my voice for a short time in the solo singing lessons, I found my way to a teacher, Andreja Zlatič, to whom I am really grateful, because she gave me lots of new sheet music and at the same time she directed me to a seminar, the first one in my life, which was led by Prof. Matej Zupan.
Before the seminar itself, let me briefly mention my first meeting with Prof. Zupan …
Until I met him, I was pretty sure that the way I was playing was probably fine. Until then, I had not heard any “real” flutists, or even detected them on the CDs that I borrowed with the greatest eagerness from the library.
After the latter, you can perhaps imagine what my real state of playing was and what my first encounter with a professional flutist might have looked like.. ☺️
Despite the big stage fright and the simultaneous impatience, this day was, I am not exaggerating, magical for me! Why?
That day, for the first time, I heard what a flute sounds like! For the first time I heard its tone, its colour, its expression. I remember feeling as if someone had lit a fire inside me, my eyes got a sparkle and my ears got a new love.
Pure magic, eyes and ears finally open, not to mention the joy in my soul and body.
That day was a miraculous day for me and an important milestone in my musical journey.
To be continued . . . 💛
